<Q: Please elaborate on your language policy.> We have clear brand guidelines and a hierarchy of messages. Icons on front of pack are limited. We use OPRL labelling for recyclability, and put it on all packs.
<Q: What makes a good packaging label? What information should be prioritised?> As simple as possible - OPRL. It would be ideal if council bins reflected this - packaging and bins matching up to make it easy for customers to recycle.
<Q: Can you describe your approach, or the approach of your organisation, to supporting/point-of-sale information with regard to plastic packaging?> Point of sale is of little use. Customers need the information when they come to dispose of the packaging. However, POS can be useful when something new, like in-store film recycling, comes along.
<Q: Are there any examples of labelling that you are especially proud of? If you aren't involved in design, please tell us about some packaging/labelling that you especially like, and why.> Our "At Home, Best Kept" storage advice. Storage advice on loose produce. Being involved in OPRL from the very beginning.
<Q: What information would you wish to be included on packaging labels, if e.g. space and branding weren't an issue?> "Recyclable or not, and which bin. That would need consistent bin marking. Storage advice if appropriate.
Legal requirements."
<Q: Is there anything that you purposely avoid including on packaging labels?> "Purposely avoid different logos on back and front of pack for the same thing. Narrative instructions - bullets are better for busy people."
<Q: What do you most want consumers to take away from the text on packaging labels? Is there any messaging that you feel isn't landing with consumers?> Storage advice is always a challenge to get right. Some customers believe that they know how things should be stored and are often wrong.
<Q: Do you have any other thoughts or comments you would like to share?>
